Artist Profile
Galina paints mostly in oil, focusing on colour and light as key purveyors of atmosphere. Living in the historic Cotswold village of Minchinhampton, the subjects which fascinate her most are the overlooked moments of every day: Highland cattle holding up traffic on their way to Tom Long's Post; a melting Winstone's ice-cream; sunlight transforming a messy sink into a thing of beauty. Such moments begin as curiosities but can turn into full-blown projects, revolving around wider issues they reflect.
Galina has been drawing and painting since childhood, taught first by her mother, a successful watercolour artist, and subsequently under the expert tuition of oil painter Rob Collins. Since moving to the Cotswolds twenty years ago she has painted professionally, exhibiting successfully in several Gloucestershire venues including Stroud's Lansdown Gallery and Subscription Rooms; Three Storeys, Nailsworth; Brewery Arts, Cirencester; Hobbs House Bakery, Nailsworth; and the Star Anise, Stroud. A regular contributor to Open Studios, Galina has also held successful art demonstrations and workshops for schools and adult art groups, as well as running a remote art club for Gloucestershire Young Carers during lockdowns. She regularly takes on private commissions ranging from portraits and pets to houses, food and favourite landscapes: please contact her at least six weeks in advance should you be interested. Alternatively she has affordable, archival quality giclée prints made of her more popular paintings as signed, limited editions - on box canvas or archival paper - as well as fine art greetings cards.
